February 11, 1928 ~ December 19, 2017 (age 89)

Richard H. McCracken, age 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 surrounded by family and friends.  Beloved husband of 65 years to Marjorie E. (nee Geyer); dear father of Richard Calvin (wife Nancy Kay), Mark Andrew, the late Joel Geyer, and Ann Rebecca; grandfather of Richard David, Matthew, Daniel, Andrew, and Joel D., and Micah and Grace Hendriksen.  Born February 11, 1928 to Horace and Genevieve (nee Gaddis) in Akron, OH.  The family moved to Ocoee, Tennessee where they lived several years before returning to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio where he continued his education and graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School.  He went on to graduate from Miami University of Ohio, and was a WW2 Veteran.  On August 23, 1952 he married Marjorie in Cuyahoga Falls.  A year later, they both committed their lives to Jesus Christ and vowed to love and serve Him together. Richard distinguished himself in a 37-year career at General Electric, Nela Park.  He was a faithful and devoted servant of God, a lifelong member and deacon at Bethel Church on Noble Road.  Richard, a devoted loving husband and father, was a mentor to many and admired by all for his honesty, trustworthiness, kindness and always, his unique and wonderful sense of humor.  There was no veneer about him and never a stranger around him.  He served on the board at Camp Burton for many years and had a heart for Christian camping ministry that tied in strongly to his love for the outdoors as well as his desire to see young people grow in their faith.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those who knew him.  A celebration of life service will be held at Bethel Church, Friday, December 29th at 11am with Pastor Carlton Harris officiating.  The McCracken family extends a gracious invitation to all to attend a reception at the church immediately following the service until 2pm.  Interment private.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to Bethel Church 2706 Noble Road, Cleveland Heights, OH 44121 or Camp Burton, 14282 Butternut Rd, Burton, OH 44021.  Arrangements by Maher-Melbourne Funeral Home (216)382-4500.
